How long can viruses live on surfaces?

Many factors affect the lifespan of viruses. These include temperature, humidity, and surface porosity. Ask the company to give you the safety data sheet (SDS) if they tell you the name and chemical of the disinfectant they are using for virus decontamination. They should be able to send this to you, and the disinfectant should be on the EPA list N, which is the approved list of disinfectants for products that meet EPA’s criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2.
The SDS will explain any potential health hazards and side effects.

While ULV fogging or Electro Static Application using Binary Technology sounds cool, it doesn’t include the initial CDC recommended steps at the time this article was written, which basically say if you are providing virus decontamination services to make sure a surface is clean, then to let the disinfectant dwell for a specified amount of time per the product label, and then wipe it off with a clean rag or let dry. You might not get the desired results if the company does not follow the basic steps.

ULV fogging is an acronym for ultra-low volume. But don’t let that fool you. This refers to the size of the droplet produced, and not the volume of liquid it atomizes. The droplet size is measured in microns. It can range from 5 to 120 depending on the fogger. Combining a pump and blower, atomize and push the liquid into the air. The more liquid you push, and the smaller the droplet, the greater the coverage. There are many ULV foggers available, including automated foggers that can release liquids at a specific time and industrial units that fill large warehouses quickly.
